The Profile Page: Your Introduction to the World
Setting up a profile is important on any social network site. It is especially critical on HubPages. Since you are dealing with people, it helps to remember that they want to know about other people. The simple adage, “People want to know about people” is key to understanding social sites. The profile page is often visited by users to find out about who you are. When there is an avatar, it sends a message that you are hiding or evasive. In marketing studies, humans prefer seeing the pictures of other humans. We like to look at each other. Besides liking to look at each other, we are curious about other people. We want to know where they live and what they do. Even if you provide just minimal responses, it will allow people to obtain some reference points.
Just as some people purchase books by particular authors, just because they like the author, the same principle applies to social network sites. Many people will read or not read your hubs based on your profile and the ability to identify with you or find out more about you. Although many people have not met John Grisham in person, his books are perennial sellers due to their familiarity with who he is. You may write some blockbuster hubs, yet if people do not know you, they will often not be read.
Since HubPages has a good relationship with Google, your profile or lack of profile will be up higher in its search engine. Since you will have the ranking, it behooves you to have a better quality one than a non-descrip profile. People are going to want to know what makes you stand out. What makes your hubs worth looking at? What do you have to say?
Another observation is that the page that often receives the most views is your profile page. Those hubbers who link to your profile page have learned a few lessons about obtaining traffic. Those links also lead to them developing traffic as well. Having a profile page is important. The profile page is like your introduction to the world. It makes a statement about how you want to be seen, and who you are. Having a good profile page will make a wonderful addition to your hubpage presence.

thanks for answering my request. makes sense. although, I have an issue with displaying my pic. I don't know why, I just don't like to...a privacy thing. once i get to know a person, I have no problem opening up and sharing more with them, but the idea of my info floating around on the net is weird to me.
